MXGP pole for Herlings, Coldenhoff 9th
If the first blow is worth a dollar, then Jeffrey Herlings already did a good thing during the timed training! It took a while for the Red Bull KTM rider to get into his rhythm, but in the 25-minute session he was slightly faster than reigning world champion Tim Gajser. However, the differences were extremely small because the entire top 7 was within 8 tenths!
Herlings even made a mistake early in the session that sent him to the ground. The fact that 'The Bullet' left the specialists on hard tracks behind certainly sounds promising. Jorge Prado was the unlucky man on the field this morning. The Spaniard was stuck 6 tenths behind Herlings but had to deal with a technical problem just as he started for a fast lap! With a good fifth time, Pauls Jonass made a successful entrance into his first MXGP for GasGas.
The entire top 10 was occupied by factory drivers. Calvin Vlaanderen and his Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha colleagues Kevin Strijbos and Brent Van Doninck occupied 12th, 14th and 15th place respectively. In his GP debut for Beta, Jeremy Van Horebeek rode to P18.
