Jan Denuwelaere about the G2 GEB21 Racing BoXXer
The G2 GEB21 Racing, introduced by Maris Racing, is not just any mountain bike. This spicy, Spanish e-mountain bike takes on the established names with an attractive and competitively priced package. Ex-cyclocross professional and motocross rider Jan Denuwelaere feels at home on anything with two wheels and was therefore the perfect man for this test!
Without much detour, Jan started his inspection tour. “At first glance he actually got good points. Assembled with the BoXXer downhill fork from RockShox. Custom brakes with 4 pistons at the front and rear are certainly appropriate. They can stop the extra weight that the engine brings with it without any problem. In general, a sturdy finish, which for a bike like this is a must rather than an unnecessary luxury. Strong 27,5” wheels. Equipped as standard with Maxxis plus tires, this G2 GEB Racing is immediately ready to dive into rough terrain.”
Time to see what this bike has to offer. We did testing in Hamme. Not a bad word about the home base of Herman Brusselmans, but to utilize the (great) potential of this bike, more challenging terrain was needed!
Comfort is an asset
Jan: “I quickly realized that this was not the trail for which this e-mountain bike was made. With 200mm of suspension travel at the front and 180mm at the rear, it was a very comfortable ride. The small potholes were easily absorbed, allowing you to sit for a long time, pedal, and let the engine do its work. We received this bike in size medium as a test bike. Which was definitely too small for me.
On the other hand, it still gave me a good position on the bike. In addition, the G2MR appeared extra playful and agile. The extra weight that an E-bike brings requires some adjustment for the avid mountain biker in terms of body position, braking technique and steering behavior. For motocross riders, on the other hand, this bike feels very free and playful. This means you don't need much time to get used to the driving behavior of this GEB21 Racing.”
“I just indicated that the rather flat test course is not the spot for which G2 developed this e-bike. Fortunately, that didn't stop us from making it a super cool cycling day! Personally, I see this bike coming into its own much more on very rough trails. Terrain where the electric motor takes you up without much energy, and then flies down at full speed over large roots and stones. Which offers you a bit of the sensation of a dirt bike. But with 80 kg less between your legs and in silence.
Powerful and economical
After several hours of testing, on the most powerful setting, the battery had only used 20 percent of its capacity. Quite impressive, and also a very big asset for this type of bicycle. No one wants to stop prematurely because the battery dies! With this 250 W strong motor and battery you will reach your own limits sooner than those of the bicycle. The motor will take you in no time at high speed through the flat connections to the next technical zone that we are looking for in the first place.
For this price, €4.460, you get a nice finish and a lot of value for your money. The G2 GEB21 Racing BoXXer is definitely a sturdy bike that you don't have to hold back on. You can just keep going until you reach your own limits. This first introduction certainly left me wanting more. We are therefore very curious to tackle this or another member of the G2 family in its natural playground!
