Good start to the season for Gebben-Van Venrooy Racing
The Gebben-Van Venrooy Racing Team has started the FIM MXGP World Championship well. Brent Vandoninck showed up very strongly and managed to finish the first heat in seventh place. Calvin Vlaaderen and Kevin Strijbos also managed to take many points from Orlyonok.
Brent van Doninck:
“I didn't get a good start in the first moto, but I was able to turn briefly in the first corner, which allowed me to start the race just outside the top ten. I had a good rhythm right from the start and managed to work my way up to seventh place. I was able to maintain myself on this and I was very satisfied with that. At the start of the second moto I got away well, but unfortunately a number of riders crashed right in front of me, causing me to fall as well. I started almost last but came back to the front well, but in thirteenth place, with four laps to go, I fell behind a group of riders. Kevin was driving behind me and wanted to pass me, he rode on the inside and it was a stupid mistake on my part. I crashed and dropped back to seventeenth place. I was a little disappointed with this because if I had come thirteenth I would have finished in the top ten of the day. Anyway, it's a good start to the season. I feel very good on the bike and let's keep working from here."
Calvin Flanders:
"It's good that we had the first Grand Prix and overall it didn't go bad at all. I had a good feeling in training and was satisfied with my lap. In the first moto I got a very good start but immediately suffered from pumped up arms. It was difficult to keep the pace high because I could hardly hold the handlebars anymore. I also didn't want to take too big risks. In the second moto I was involved in the crash at the start but the riding felt better and I had good speed. I'm looking forward to working on some things and being stronger in Matterley Basin in two weeks."
Kevin Strijbos:
“After training I felt pretty good on the track, but unfortunately I got a bad start in the first moto. The bike was quite aggressive on the mesh starting plate but after that I went for it to get to the front. I ended up finishing in sixteenth place, it was difficult to overtake because we were all at the same speed. If you drive 2 to 3 seconds faster per lap like Gajser in the second moto, it is easier to overtake. I had a good feeling and was able to keep pushing throughout the heat, which meant I ended up sixteenth. For the second moto I changed the sprocket and this made it a little better at the start, but still not perfect. I came into contact with Olsen on the starting field and had to close the throttle. This meant that I was once again the last to enter the first corner. This made it another difficult race. I came back to twelfth place, which is okay because the field is very strong and I haven't competed in Grand Prix's for a long time. In the second moto I also had some back pain, it wasn't bad but not 100 percent good either. It's quite good to finish in the top fifteen, but the speed is there for all three riders to compete in the top ten. We still have a few small things to improve on the bike and hopefully we can improve this for England!”
