Glenn Coldenhoff about his Russian GP
The first Grand Prix was eagerly awaited. That is of course always the case, but now the fans have had to be very patient. The race went reasonably well for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team. Glenn Coldenhoff tells his story here, as do teammates Jeremy Seewer and Rookie Ben Watson.
Jeremy Seewer:
“Considering how both heats went for me today, the result is not bad. I managed to score a decent amount of points in what could have been a bad weekend. The track was very difficult and the speed was high. I'm happy that this GP is over and that I'm still in one piece. It felt like driving on ice. The top five was the goal here and I achieved that. It's a good position to start the championship. I'm still not 100% – I'm recovering from a small injury from preseason, but I feel good with the team and this bike. My time will come.”
Glenn Coldenhoff:
“I felt good this morning and had a good feeling in training. My start in the first moto wasn't that great. Later I was seriously pulled over and my knee was hit. My front brake also bent and you can't really miss that on this circuit. Fortunately I managed to limit the damage and finished tenth. I am indebted to the physiotherapist, Phillipe. He patched me up again for the second heat where necessary. I had a good start in the second race, but I was hit from behind and had a big crash. Then I made a mistake and got stuck in a very deep hole on the side of the circuit for a while. It's good to get some points, but overall it was a very disappointing day.”
Ben Watson:
“I struggled all day. Qualifying is never my strong point, but certainly not on a circuit like here where you have to take risks. I never felt comfortable, so I drove in safety mode all the time. At this level it's that wrestling and trying to limit the damage. It was just one of those days. I'm just happy to come out of the fight in one piece. I had a few crashes today, one of them was bad, but I'm fine and I'm healthy, so I'm staying positive. I know what I am capable of. I won't let this influence me. Better days are coming.”
