“A big improvement compared to Russia”
The first Grand Prix of the season was difficult for Glenn Coldenhoff. Fortunately, the Grand Prix of England was much better. The Yamaha rider and his teammates Jeremy Seewer and Ben Watson look back on last weekend in Matterley Basin.
Jeremy Seewer:
“It was a solid weekend. We were really lucky with the weather. We were able to ride two heats in dry weather conditions while we expected a lot of rain. The racing today was less than normal because the circuit has always been very technical and fun in the past, today it was more or less a road race. I understand why the track was like this because the organization was waiting for the rain that didn't come. Despite this I am satisfied. I almost got the holeshot in the first moto but after that I had a hard time getting into my rhythm. We also need some time to find the right bike setup on MXGP tracks. I'm happy that we were able to make a big change to the set up between the heats. I was able to ride a consistent round without crashes or mistakes, which earned me a lot of points. We are moving in the right direction and will get there step by step.”
Glenn Coldenhoff:
''It was a good day. I had a hard time in time training and didn't get further than a fourteenth fastest time, but that doesn't really matter for the starting position here. The feeling on the bike was good and that is the most important thing. I got a very good start in the first moto and managed to work my way up to third place on the first lap. I had confidence but Herlings surprised me on the inside. A mistake in a corner made it difficult to regain the speed immediately, which also caused Tim Gajser to pass me. I finished in fifth place, which is my first good result this year. In the second moto I had a good feeling, but due to a crash I lost time and places. I finished in ninth place and eighth in the day's results, which is not where I want to be but it is a big improvement compared to Russia. We will continue to build from here."
Ben Watson:
“It was a very beautiful day. It's a good start to leave here with an eleventh and tenth place in the heats, which put me ninth in the overall standings. It's something we can work on and now we know where I can improve. I now know where I stand and we will move forward from here!''
