Andrea Bonacorsi the best in the sand
With two clear victories, Andrea Bonacorsi has won the first race of the KNMV Open Dutch Championship 250cc. The Italian was the strongest man at the Motorsportpark Gelderland Midden today. The success at Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing was completed by Dave Kooiker. He finished second in the daily rankings ahead of Kjell Verbruggen (4-3), who finished second in this championship last year.
1e some
Nikita Kucherov starts like a dart from the bow for the first heat over 25 minutes and a lap. The Russian takes the lead ahead of Verbruggen, Petr Polak, Joshua van der Linden and Mack Bouwense, who is back on the circuit. In the first corner things go wrong with a large group of riders including Jeremy Sydow. The German trained the fastest, but the Yamaha rider did not enjoy this. Bonacorsi's first lap is very good and he comes second from the first lap. Verbruggen is also doing well and then there is an early gap to fourth man Polak. After three laps Bonacorsi takes the lead and then pulls away by more than 30 seconds. Verbruggen also passes Kucherov and then the match seems to end. Rick Elzinga thinks very differently about this. He continues to work hard, bringing together a foursome in the battle for second place. The TBS rider managed to cross the finish line in second place ahead of Polak, Verbruggen and Kooiker, but the top five was complete.
2e some
The second heat starts better for Sydow and he is followed by Kucherov, Kooiker and Bonacorsi. This is clearly not Sydow's day, who again leaves the match early. Kooiker takes the lead but after four laps there is Bonacorsi again. The Italian has clearly found his way in the sand and he takes distance to also win the second round. Kooiker takes a good second place ahead of Verbruggen. Elzinga had to work very hard in the first heat and he did it again in the second heat. In the first half of the race he comes from 18th place to fourth but then he leaves the race. Fourth place goes to Christopher Mills who confirms this. Things have not been going well for Marcel van Drunen's son-in-law in recent years, but hopefully this bodes well. The top five is completed by the Czech Grand Prix rider Polak.
