Uddevalla strengthens Liam's confidence
Last weekend Liam Everts was on the start list for the third and fourth races of the Swedish championship. Both races were held on the iconic Uddevalla circuit! The young KTM rider started his weekend with a sixth place finish in the timed qualifying sessions. But this more than decent qualifying result did not translate into a good start in the first heat. The opposite happened. A few meters over the starting gate, Liam hit a fellow competitor and lost all his momentum, starting in the middle of the pack.
After a number of smart moves, Liam ended up in eleventh place after one lap. In the following laps he continued to fight and made good progress towards the front. Liam raced himself to a well-deserved fourth place with flair, confidence and good lap times.
For the second heat the circuit turned into one big mud puddle. In these conditions the start is crucial, but Liam made a great start and came through the first corner in around fifth place. After a few laps, Liamski was firmly in control of third place, but as one of the riders who excels in these conditions, he kept pushing. At the end of the race, Liam recorded lap times that were faster than everyone on the track. The fact that he sometimes gained more than 5 seconds per lap over the second-place rider gave the youngster wings. He closed the gap and with three laps to go he managed to take second place! He would keep this place until the finish. This second place, combined with the fourth place from the first round, resulted in a well-deserved third place overall.
On the second day of the weekend, Liam clocked the fastest time in his group! This gave him an excellent starting position. After a good start, the Foodmaker-supported rider ran into trouble along with Jed Beaton, dropping him to last place. Once again Liam showed his growing maturity by continuing to drive neatly and quickly. Halfway through the race he is already in twelfth place. But Liam goes one step further and finishes in a hard-fought seventh place!
When the starting gate dropped for the second heat on Sunday, Liam made a great start, coming through the first corners in fifth position. This good start resulted in him being in the middle of an interesting battle for fourth and fifth place. A battle that he seemed to win, by taking a nice lead in fifth place. But in the second part of the race, the catch-up race from the first heat took its toll. Liam slowed down a bit, but managed to maintain his fourth place. The seventh place from the first heat and the fourth place from the second heat resulted in a fifth place overall.
In addition to this news from the Swedish championship, we also have extra-sporty news. Anyone who watches the Belgian TV show the 'Container Cup' saw, knew that Liam only had to pass two more exams to obtain his diploma! Now we can report that he has passed and obtained his TSO Sport diploma, at the age of 16!
