Technology: more horses for your YZ-F in an instant
The air filter compartment is not a great design on the latest generation of Yamaha YZ-Fs. Airflow is limited by the cramped housing. However, this restriction can be improved in seconds by installing an aftermarket air filter cover.
Rarely have you been able to gain a few extra horses so quickly without major tuning. You replace the original cover with an aftermarket one. There are five companies that make such a gem, but in the Netherlands and Belgium it is VHM that offers this item. Assembly is very simple and the cover looks great too. On the dyno you gain just over 2hp on a YZ450F. You also gain power with a YZ250F by promoting airflow. If you want to squeeze out some extra juice, combine the VHM cover with a Power Flow kit from Twin Air.
In the video below you can see Grant Langston working on a YZ-F equipped with the VHM airbox cover. Installing this cover is a very simple way to let your blue machine breathe a little better. More air is more power! The throttle response improves and the engine pulls through the midrange just a little smoother. For the 450F the cover is from 2018 to 2021, for the 250F it is from 2019 to 2021.
