250 AMA 2021MX Preview
While the established names take the lead in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship 450MX, we are looking for new names in the lightest class. Dylan Ferrandis has left this class so we are looking for a new champion. Will it be Star Racing-Yamaha that takes away the gold again? We look ahead to the battle in 250MX.
Over the past seven seasons, Yamaha has won the title no fewer than five times. Zach Osborne (2017) and Adam Cianciarulo (2019) joined the team for a party. They are also making a big effort this year with five drivers, including Jeremy Martin. The 2014-2015 champion is the only rider in this class with a title. In addition to Martin, Colt Nichols, Justin Cooper, Nath Thrasher and Jarrett Frye compete for the team.
Probably the most resistance from Team Honda comes thanks to the Hunter brothers and Jett Lawrence. The oldest of the Australians in particular has impressed during the supercross series. Both will certainly compete for the championship and that is necessary for Honda who won their last title in 2013 with Eli Tomac!
The team to win championships for many years, but times are also changing at Team Pro Circuit-Kawasaki-Monster Energy. In the past, Mitch Payton has won titles with Mike Brown, Ricky Carmichael, Ivan Tedesco, Ryan Villopoto, Dean Wilson and Blake Baggett. In 2019, Cianciarulo won, but last year the best Kawasaki rider could not get further than eighth place. That has to improve for the next championship and that has to happen with Austin Forkner, Cameron McAdoo, Seth Hammaker and Jo Shimoda.
Six drivers are deployed from 'Austria'. Maximus Vohland on behalf of KTM and the duo Michael Mosiman and Pierce Brown with GasGas. Jalek Swoll, RJ Hampshire and Stilez Robertson will compete for Husqvarna. Hampshire in particular can be expected to make an appearance in the top five.
Of the private drivers, Alex Martin is probably the only one who can join the battle at the front. Just like his brother, he was able to fully focus on this championship when he was injured during the first match of this year.
