The European Enduro Championship in Hellendoorn
During the weekend of September 30 – October 2, the M.C.N.H. the final race of the European Enduro Championship. This is the first time in the club's 65 years of existence that a European competition has been organized. Of course the M.C.N.H. not an unknown player in the Enduro world.
The Heuvelrit, the annual enduro competition that counts for the National Championships, has been (one of) the most beautiful enduro competition in the Netherlands for 53 years. That is why it is now time to introduce foreign riders to the Hellendoorn forests, the sand pit and the vast corn fields.
The organization of a European Championship match
It is quite unique that international enduro competitions take place in the Netherlands. After twice an international Six Days (in 2 and 1984) and twice before a European Enduro Championship, the honor now belongs to the M.C.N.H. to organise an international enduro competition, as part of the club's 1993th anniversary.
The organization of such a European Championship final requires good preparation, which a small committee within the enduro committee of the M.C.N.H. has been working on it for a year now. The permit application has been submitted to the municipality, the script is ready, intensive consultations are already underway with the various land owners and the starting location is now known.
Riding school 't Oale Spoor, central location
The start and finish take place at the Manege 't Oale Spoor, a beautiful location at the bottom of the Hellendoornse mountain with enough space to accommodate all additional matters such as the many officials, the (inter)national press and the MCNH organization. About 150 foreign riders are expected to participate in the European Championship and more than 300 Dutch enduro riders will also appear at the start. In addition to the European Championship, this competition also counts for the Dutch Enduro Championship.
Beursplein and exhibition
A covered exhibition square will be set up in the riding school where the sponsors of the event can present themselves and various brands will show their 2022 models and of course the after market will not be missing. In addition to the exhibition square, an exhibition about the history of enduro will be set up. With unique historical enduro motorcycles and historical photos of all enduro TOP riders of the M.C.N.H. such as world champion Henk Poorte and Jan Tijhuis. Attention is also paid to the 65th anniversary of the M.C.N.H.
Thursday evening prologue on the Hofmansweide
To bring the sport closer to the public, the M.C.N.H. decided to organize a real prologue. The European Championship competition starts on Thursday evening, September 30, with an extreme cross test on the Hofmansweide in the center of Hellendoorn, which promises to be a real spectacle with various obstacles and hurdles in the dark with artificial light.
The route: the West loop with the Dauwpop and the Zandkuil test
The route is divided into a West and an East loop, with Manege 't Oale Spoor as the central point, where riders always return for time control. The route starts with the West loop through the forests of the Hellendoornse mountain with two famous enduro tests. The first is the Dauwpop test, which starts at the Koetree cross circuit and from there heads towards the Dauwpop site with the small sand hole with the infamous 'Steep wall'. A test that, due to its length, the long paths with the deep cut holes and the 'Steep wall', demands the utmost from the fitness of the riders.
This year the Zandkuil test is just before time control 1. It is the well-known classic around the large sand hole, 'De Zandkoele'. A lot of cutting and roots make this a tough enduro test where you always have to pay close attention, a slider is made in no time and the trees are always (too) close.
The East loop with the Bennink extreme test and the Veerkamp cross test
After the riders can catch their breath at the time control, they start again for part 2 of the route. The east loop takes you through the corn fields and the countryside around Hellendoorn, including two enduro tests that demand the utmost from the riders' skills: the Bennink extreme test and the Veerkamp cross test. The Bennink extreme test takes you through the forest on the Overwaterweg; a challenging test with quite a bit of woodwork to maneuver in between. The Veerkamp test is a cross test with beautiful single tracks between the woods, which requires good concentration and sharp steering from the riders.
