Tomac wins, Webb does good business again
Eli Tomac lived up to his role as favorite at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Kawasaki rider has won the thirteenth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The reigning champion won ahead of Rookie Chase Sexton and Cooper Webb. The KTM rider is doing good business because Ken Roczen does not get further than ninth place. With four games to go, Webb now has a 22-point lead over the German.
In the shortened final, Aaron Plessinger gets the best start ahead of Webb, Joey Savatgy and Sexton. In the first corner Barcia crashes and Roczen also comes to a stop. The Honda rider can therefore only start the race in 20th position! Plessinger has everything under control in the first half of the match and builds up a safe lead. Not much later, Sexton takes second place from Webb and it looks like the Yamaha rider will take his first victory at the front. However, a small slide throws a spanner in the works for the two-time 250SX champion. Plessinger falls and Sexton takes control. Would it give this two-time 250SX champion his first win? Tomac wakes up in the second half of the match. He passes Webb at the same place Sexton had done moments before. The Kawasaki rider then manages to close his gap to Sexton. A bend before the white flag, Sexton gets into trouble due to a straggler. Tomac smells blood and immediately goes on the attack. With success because the Kawasaki rider takes the lead and records his third victory of the season! Sexton is second ahead of Webb, Jason Anderson and Dylan Ferrandis completes the top five. Roczen crosses the finish line ninth and seems to be eliminated for the title.
The championship will continue next Wednesday and that match will also be in Atlanta.
