The Progrip Green System for Tear-Offs explained
During the spring competitions in Italy we saw a novelty on the helmets of some top riders. There was some kind of cable attached to it to catch the tear-offs so that they do not end up in the environment. Curious as we are, we wanted to know more about it.
The manufacturer of this new system is the Italian Progrip and its full name is Progrip Green System for Tear off Lens. Tear-offs have been banned for a number of years, but this system could be a good alternative for enthusiasts. In fact, it is simplicity itself with a cable that is attached to the right side of the lens. The other end is attached to a bracket that fits over the strap of the glasses, so that a detached tear-off can never fall to the ground.
Progrip's system has been approved by the FMI, the Italian motorsport association. We could not find out whether other countries or the F.I.M. themselves will allow the system, but it is difficult to imagine that it would not be approved. Moreover, the tear-offs are biodegradable should any of them end up in the environment. The set contains a lens that fits the Progrip glasses of the models 3300 and 3303, ten matching tear-offs, the plastic cord with two mounting pins and an applicator for attachment to the elastic band of the glasses.
As soon as we get the chance, we will put it to a test on the motocross track. The Progrip Green System for Tear Off Lenses costs €46,20 and is available via the Outlaw Racing webshop via this link.
