Japanese “Big Four” will jointly develop universal batteries
The consortium founded in April 2019 by Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki aims to promote the use of electric motorcycles. Now these four will work together on an interchangeable battery for motorcycles.
They work together to extend the autonomy, interchangeability and charging time of future batteries. It is not known to what extent this will affect future electrically powered off-road models, but it seems logical to us if interchangeable batteries are also introduced in this segment. Just a month ago, an agreement was also made between Honda, Yamaha and the European manufacturers KTM and Piaggio. There too, there was talk of a standardized system in terms of interchangeability and loading.
The collaboration between all these companies suggests that this system could become a global standard. If other major manufacturers such as e.g. Harley Davidson jumping on this bandwagon can only contribute to the creation of a single system of interchangeable batteries and their charging infrastructure.
