High day for Maggiora Park!
Today was a historic day in Maggiora! For the first time in five years, the world-famous circuit opened its doors again. The first round of the Italian MX Prestige Championship can also count on several exceptional attractions…
'Ad hoc' competition leader Alex Puzar ushered in a new era with a flag wave. The two-time world champion was far from the only star. MotoGP star Andrea Dovizioso, MX of Nations legend Gautier Paulin and Stefano Avandero, chairman of A Sport Group that operates the circuit, all enjoyed riding the phenomenal circuit in northern Italy!
We will have known that the most iconic, historic and prestigious motocross track is back in business. After the opener of the Italian Prestige Motocross Championship tomorrow with super wildcard MXGP world champion Tim Gajser, the European Championship for Classic Cars and the Italian MXGP will follow, scheduled for July 4. However, Maggiora Park looks beyond motocross and also wants to develop in the field of e-bikes.
Stefano Avandero, chairman of A Sport Group: “It was a fantastic day of sport and fun with friends. I thank Alex, Andrea, Gautier and Giacomo for being here today and for sharing such an important moment with us. It has been five very demanding and difficult years, but through our tenacity we have managed to achieve our goal. This day is just the first of many others to come and it is an important signal in a difficult time for everyone. I would like to thank the entire group of people I work with, together we are one team!”
Alessandro Puzar: “Coming back here is always great. In Maggiora thirty years ago I became the Alex Puzar who met cross fans and really gave my career a turn. Unfortunately I couldn't go on track today due to an injury, but even as a spectator I wouldn't miss being here for anything in the world. I would like to thank Stefano for the invitation.”
Andrea Dovizioso: “It is difficult to find a circuit of this level today and to ride in Maggiora together with riders like Paulin and Gajser was simply fantastic. For me it was the first time on this track and it was a perfect day, in which I was also able to learn something from others, while constantly trying to improve myself.”
Gautier Paulin: “Being here today is truly incredible as I return to a track where I won both a GP and an MX of the Nations. It's fantastic to see a circuit open at a time when they usually close. The entire A Sports Group has done a great job and I am happy that Stefano and the guys from Maggiora PArk have done everything they can to open again, it is a great signal in such a period like this.”
Giacomo Nizzolo: “It's a pleasure and an honor to be here for the track's official reopening and to be able to share it with riders at this level is even better. For me, Maggiora represents the temple of Motocross, a place I appreciated since I was little; to be able to drive today was a fantastic emotion.”
