Jed Beaton about fellow countryman and MotoGP star Jack Miller
Due to the ultra-long preparation for the GP season, many riders and teams chose to stay in one place longer. During his internship in Spain, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna MX2 star Jed Beaton had the opportunity to train with Ducati Lenovo's Jack Miller.
Beaton's compatriot was often working on the dirt bike last winter. “As a young guy Jack obviously rode motocross before moving to road racing,” says Beaton. “It was nice to spend time with another Australian. Jack is someone with a great sense of humor so it was cool to train with him. I haven't seen any other MotoGP riders on a dirt track yet, but I bet he is one of the fastest MotoGP riders on a dirt bike.”
Miller and Beaton rode at the popular Rocco's Ranch, among other places. A dirt track complex located just next to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which also hosts the MotoGP. For Jed it was a completely new off-road experience.
“That day we went flat-tracking together was one of my coolest experiences on a motorcycle in a long time. Because it was so different and completely new for me,” said the 23-year-old Husqvarna rider. “I drove around with a big smile all day!”
In 2020, Beaton finished the MX2 World Championship in 4th placede. This season he is seen as one of the challengers of Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts for the 2021 world title in the quarter liters. There is also a lot at stake this year for Jack Miller, in his first season as a factory rider for Ducati. Beaton was struck by the way Jack prepares and especially his openness. MotoGP riders now have to train on other bikes once to compensate for the lack of hours on their racing bikes.
“He's a bit crazy and never worries,” Jed laughs. “Jack (Miller) really loves motocross. I like the mentality of those men. They are not afraid to train or ride together. And they always seem to be having fun. I think we are more reserved about what we do. But I respect the fact that they do a lot of things together, which is pretty cool!”
