Walter Roelants donates almost 50.000 euros to To Walk Again
The former motocross rider went to the Dakar Rally for the first time earlier this year to participate and raise money for the non-profit organization To Walk Again. Roelants was able to complete the tough rally and donated 48.683 euros to the foundation.
The rally in Saudi Arabia was tough, but Walter Roelants persevered and was able to finish the race on the final day in Jeddah. This makes him the oldest Belgian who could accomplish this feat in the Dakar Rally.
Walter Roelants"I'm proud of what I've done. I have always remained myself,” Roelants responded. “I have always gone above and beyond and I have done that not only for Joel, but also for other people who are in a similar situation. I felt bad and could barely feel my back. But, I still felt something and that kept me going. Joel and all those other people don't feel anything anymore. "
Show Claes, Chairman of To Walk Again: “Walter Roelants symbolizes the people for whom To Walk Again works: people who have been seriously affected by fate, but do not want to be left behind.. "
