Justin Cooper wins and takes back the lead
The fifth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 250SX West Coast was won by Justin Cooper. The Yamaha rider (photo) wins in Arlington ahead of Team Pro Circuit rider Cameron McAdoo and Seth Hammaker. In the standings, Cooper takes over the lead from Hunter Lawrence, who crossed the finish line in fifth place. The differences remain small, the top five are only 15 points apart.
From the first corner Cooper has the race under control. In the first corner Lawrence tries to make it difficult for the Yamaha rider, but that's it. Cody Schock starts third ahead of Hammaker and his Kawasaki colleague McAdoo. The Australian has dropped back to fifth place, but he manages to gain a position when Schock makes a mistake. This hits Hammaker who had passed him moments before, resulting in a fall. Later in the final, Lawrence himself also goes into the ropes, but fortunately he can continue and crosses the finish line in fifth place. Cooper has the race under control at the front, McAdoo takes second place from Hammaker, but competing for the win is no longer an option. Jalek Swoll narrowly misses the podium. A good race for Dominique Pascal Thury, the German finished thirteenth and Cedric Soubeyras finished fifteenth.
There are no races for the next two weeks, then the championship continues at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
