VIDEO: a new dirt bike made in China
The off-road motorcycles from China have not built up a very good reputation here in Europe. Over the past decade, half-hearted attempts have come our way with questionable build quality. But in China they learn quickly and that is why the brand new SSR SR300S is worth examining.
The Chinese off-road machines were nothing compared to the dirt bikes we are used to. Usually the looks were adopted, but the correct technology was omitted, so the motorcycle could handle a country road, but a serious cross track was better left aside. But now there is the S.S.R. SR300S that brings a breath of fresh air into dirt bike land. The motorcycle already has the right looks and technically it seems that this attempt is a step in the right direction.
In the video you can see how a few enthusiastic owners drive the SR300S around the Glen Helen circuit to see how the thing handles. We can already reveal that the power is not yet what it should be, but that may be a matter of time before the engineers close the gap on the Japanese and the Austrians. For the first time, a dirt bike from China appears to have the qualities to be used as a serious dirt bike in the long term. It is currently unknown whether the motorcycle will come to Europe, but this may also be a matter of time. SSR also makes other models, which you can view at http://www.ssrmotorsports.com/
