After almost 5 years another victory for Christian Craig!
The first race of the Monster Energy AMA SUpercross Championship 250SX East Coast was won by Christian Craig. The Yamaha rider won the final in Houston ahead of Austin Forkner and Colt Nichols. With a fourth place, Jo Shimoda did very well in the NRG Stadium and it was RJ Hampshire who completed the top five.
In the final over 15 minutes and a lap, Hampshire gets the best start. The Husqvarna rider sees Craig pass in the first full lap and he does not look back. Jett Lawrence and Forkner follow in third and fourth place, but they are busy with each other, allowing Hampshire to hold on to second place for a long time. That gives 29-year-old Craig the opportunity to build his lead. Halfway through the race, the Yamaha rider has a lead of about five seconds. Forkner has passed Lawrence and then beaten Hampshire with six minutes to go. The Kawasaki rider is still trying to make up for his deficit, but without success. After almost 5 years (February 2016) Craig wins his second supercross of his career! Forkner comes in second ahead of Nichols. He manages to benefit in the final phase when Hampshire and Lawrence make a mistake separately and fall. Shimoda crosses the finish line in fourth and has an excellent debut at the Pro Circuit-Kawasaki. Hampshire takes fifth place.
