PHOTO: a cool Kawasaki W800 dirt bike
It doesn't happen that often, but Kawasaki still commissioned a renowned company to build a motorcycle that they would probably never build themselves. This was the case with the Kawasaki W800 dirt bike from MRS Oficina.
The order went to the Parisian company MRS Oficina. They received a W800 from Kawasaki France and, thanks to their experience in building custom motorcycles, turned the Kawi into a beautiful twincrosser. With a fresh chassis, plenty of suspension travel and cross tires, a classic W800 is transformed into a sensational crosser.
The heart of the engine is the reliable 773cc, 48hp, 63Nm twin. It gets a black paint job, open filters and a boldly curved double-baffle exhaust system made of stainless steel. Above the engine, however, a little more is needed to approximate the lines of the 70s crosser. The fuel tank shortened and became narrower. But because this reduces fuel volume, MRS installs an additional tank under the seat.
The frame of the W800 remained virtually original. At the front, the upside-down Showa front fork from a Kawasaki KX450F provides the necessary spring and damping work. At the rear, a slightly shortened aluminum crosser swingarm works with a new shock absorber mounting on the swingarm and custom-made twin shock absorbers from Öhlins. Powerful braking systems from Beringer were installed at the front and rear. The wheels consist of 21F/18R Excel rims spoked on Talon hubs and fitted with Bridgestone Cross tires.
MRS Oficina has spent more than 400 man hours on this custom bike. For the paintwork, a color palette was chosen that was inspired by the KX500 from the eighties. It is completed by some raw aluminum parts and a subtle blue finish on the frame. As an extra nod to the brand's success in motocross, the W800 motocross bike has Eli Tomac's typical number on the number plates. We are fans!
