The 'greens' continue to resist in Switzerland
In recent years, Swiss motocross has been fighting against the 'greens' who managed to destroy the Swiss Grand Prix after a number of great editions. In Schlatt, a municipality in the Swiss province of Thurgau, Chris Möckli wants to build a motocross hall next to his existing motocross circuit. The landscape protectors are fighting fiercely against the project. Just before Christmas, Möckli received the message from the Thurgau region that the objection of the Swiss Landscape Protection Foundation and other nature conservation organizations against the project of a motocross hall had been approved.
With an investment of 3,8 million Swiss francs, Möckli, operator of the MX-Academy motocross school and owner of an existing circuit, wants to build a hall of 99 x 90 meters for indoor motocross. Although the rejection of the building application for the hall is far from final, the Foundation for Landscape Protection Switzerland presents itself as a big winner in the battle to preserve the Swiss landscape and writes in their own press release: “Now the motocross track must be placed in a nationally protected area is also withdrawn.” The foundation also wants the circuit closed!
Möckli of course did not expect that the permit for the motocross hall would be approved without any problems. “At that time it took eight years before we could start building the motocross track. The Schlatt municipal council has done everything it can to prevent the slope.” Möckli is appealing against the rejection of the building permit. It will be a long process that should take at least two years.
