Dakar Rally: Honda doubles down, KTM bites the dust
Today the second stage of the Dakar Rally took place. It left in Bisha and arrived in Wadi Ad-Dawasir. Team Honda hit back hard at their time loss from yesterday as Joan Barreda Bort and Ricky Brabec finished first and second.
Toby Price, yesterday's winner, had a difficult day and lost half an hour to the leaders. The other Red Bull KTM riders also had a hard time. Matthias Walkner sees an orderly ranking go up in smoke due to technical problems. He lost two hours and had to repair his bike himself. Sam Sunderland fought hard against the dunes today and had to surrender 32 minutes at the finish. Daniël Sanders was still the best KTM rider, he finished 9thde 16 minutes from winner Joan Barreda.
Laia Sanz of the GasGas Factory Team finished 23rd todayth. Walter Roelants also did well today. He finished 81stth. Paul Spierings turned 30th and his compatriot Olaf Harmsen finished 86thth. Every day after the ride, Walter gives a short summary of his experiences. Tomorrow the caravan will make a tour and arrive back at the bivouac in Wadi Ad-Dawasir in the evening. They will have covered a total of 403 km, a large part of which will again consist of sand dunes.
