Dakar Rally: Benavides wins true battle
The ninth stage to and from Neom left heavy marks at the top of the rankings. Toby Price crashed heavily at km 155 and had to be discharged with a broken wrist and shoulder. Ross Branch had to leave early in the internship with a defect and gave up. Kevin Benavides won the internship.
Ricky Brabec crossed the finish line second, but was given a 15-minute penalty for helping the crashed Toby Price. This sentence was subsequently waived again. Adrien Van Beveren rode his best stage yet today and finished fifth in the bivouac. Luciano Benavides also had to retire today. Kevin's younger brother also injured his shoulder and, like Price, was taken to hospital in Tabuk.
Walter Roelants was also able to complete a good ride today and finished 49th. Paul Spierings turned 37th and Olaf Harmsen finished 61stth . José Ignacio Cornejo Florimo strengthens his lead in the rankings. Honda takes control of the Dakar because there are four HRC Hondas in the top five. Only KTM rider Sam Sunderland is the odd one out and is listed third. Tomorrow stage 10 is on the program with a ride from Neom to Alula over a hilly route where good navigation will be very important.
With this link from our colleagues at Sporza you can see a funny video with Walter Roelants and the dress of an Arab in the leading roles.
