Van Doninck about the last raid in the MXGP
A 'last minute' deal brought Brent Van Doninck onto the saddle of the YZ450F last week. The rider born in Herentals made an impression, despite 0,0 preparation he managed to hold his own at the highest level. Van Doninck did very well with a sixth place during the last round of the season! Alessandro Lupino also made himself heard during the matches in Arco di Trento. However, the Italian says goodbye to the Dutch team after three seasons.
Brent van Doninck: “I ended the day with my best result in the MXGP class so far. In the first moto I was unlucky because my handlebars crashed into another rider's rear wheel, breaking the entire left handlebar. I lost a lot of time and was almost a lap behind. In addition, I had no grip at all, which made it safer to leave the race. In the second moto I got a better start and felt good on the bike. Each time I felt better on the bike. I would like to thank the Gebben van Venrooy Racing team for this opportunity to show what I can do. It was great to spend the week with such a professional team."
Alessandro Lupino: “It was a special day for me. I spoke with Emile and Ruud yesterday and all three of us knew that this was my last race for the Gebben van Venrooy Racing team and therefore I tried to finish with good results. Unfortunately we had bad luck today. In the first moto things went well and I was able to battle with Desalle and Cairoli at a good speed until the block broke and I had to stop. In the second moto I got a good start and was fourth until I came into contact with other riders and had to continue almost last. I had a good time and came back to eleventh place, but I wanted to give the team more. This team was like a family to me and I made a lot of friends within this team. It is therefore not easy to say goodbye, but that is life. I am happy to have spent the best three years of my life within this team and never say never for the future, maybe we can work together again.”
