Seewer catches up with Cairoli for the battle for silver
The title battle in the MXGP is over but the battle for second place is wide open. Jeremy Seewer (photo) finished second in Arco di Trento, closing within four points of Antonio Cairoli! The battle for the vice title is therefore still exciting. Seewer looks back on the seventeenth GP here with his teammates Gautier Paulin and Arnaud Tonus.
Jeremy Seewer: “I took my first pole position and that felt great. I have been second in qualifying many times this year. It doesn't really matter here where you are behind the starting gate, but it felt good to take pole position. After having a great first heat, I would like to congratulate Tim Gajser on winning the world title. I scored well today and scored good points for the world championship.
Gautier Paulin: “It was quite a difficult day. In the first heat, the rider next to me arrived too early at the start, which caused me to move too early. Immediately over the starting gate, the rider next to me cut me off and therefore had to come back to the front from the back. I fought my way back into the top ten and the riding went well. It is difficult to achieve good results with such starts. In the second moto we had a red flag situation but luckily the rider involved is okay. Then we had to start with sandy tires and therefore I had a lot of spin on the starting plate, which again meant I was not in a good position. On a track like this it is difficult to overtake because everyone is chasing each other like a train. It is very important here to get a good start, but the positive is that my speed is good and I feel good physically."
Arnaud Tonus: “The day was difficult. The speed is there but I got a bad start in both motos and then I had a hard time getting into my rhythm and lost too much time. I miss the aggression while driving. In the first moto I got a bad start and finished in fifteenth place. In the second moto I crashed at the start and I don't know where I ended up. It was a difficult day but we will regroup for the last match."
