Macuks wins, Savaste comes closer!
Toms Macuks won the fifth match of the European Open Championship in Arco di Trento. The Latvian finished second in both heats, making him the winner of the day. Kim Savaste (1-5) came second ahead of Karel Kutsar (3-3), bringing the Finn one point closer in the title battle. Mike Bolink (17-16) managed to get into the points in both heats. Rob Windt only scores in the second round, where the Mulders Motoren rider is flagged as 19th. Unfortunately, Damian Wedage does not score.
1e some
Davide De Bortoli, who started from pole position, seemed to win the first round, but the Italian made a mistake in the second half of the race. He then crashes again, leaving him fifth. Savaste wins the first round ahead of Toms Macuks and Karel Kutsar. The Norwegian Cornelius Toendel seems to be in second place, but he crashes after a collision with Macuks. The JWR rider finishes fourth ahead of De Bortoli. Bolink scores four points, the WPM driver finishes seventeenth. Unfortunately, Rob Windt and Damian Wedage do not reach the finish.
2e some
Jimmy Clochet got into trouble at the start of the first moto, but he made no mistakes in the second moto. The Frenchman takes the lead and will not relinquish it. During the first half of the race, Macuks is able to keep the leader in view, but then he has to watch how the Kawasaki rider distances himself. Kutsar finishes third again ahead of Toendel. Savaste did not have a good start and he comes back to fifth place. Bolink (17th) and Windt (19th) are in the points, Wedage is not able to do that either.
The final of this championship will be held next Saturday. Kutsar has a nine-point lead over Savaste. Macuks is 29 points behind the leader.
