Maarten Roos (MXGP Valkenswaard) about the 2021 World Championship calendar
For the third time since 1989, Valkenswaard does not appear on the provisional calendar of the cross-GPs. It is not that the organization does not want to organize, the opposite is actually the case. Because unfortunately the permits cannot be obtained, an MXGP in 2021 has been canceled.
Due to uncertainty about the zoning plan, racing is currently not allowed on the Eurocircuit. The municipality of Valkenswaard has indicated that a temporary permit may be discussed, but the organization does not want that. Maarten Roos from the organization: “I want clarity and certainty. By this I mean a zoning plan that makes it possible to race on the Eurocircuit, so that we can obtain a permanent permit. As long as that is not completed, there will be no MXGP on the Eurocircuit.”
Roos has been in contact with Dik van Wikselaar, the man behind Motorsportpark Gelderland Midden to organize a Grand Prix at the new location near Arnhem. This has not yet led to concrete agreements. If there is room on the calendar because races are canceled, an MXGP could possibly be organized at Motorsportpark Gelderland Midden. Rose: “We can do that without an audience if the conditions of promoter Infront Media are acceptable to us.”
