Lupino and Van Doninck impress!
The first of three races in Arco di Trento went well for Gebben-Van Venrooy Racing. Alessandro Lupino returned from some injuries and finished in sixth place! Calvin Vlaanderen was injured last week and Brent Van Doninck was brought in as a replacement at the last minute. Both riders made an impression and they tell their story here!
Alessandro Lupino: “I am very happy with my comeback. I knew it would be tough because my fitness isn't great at the moment. From Mantova until now I have only ridden four times, that's four times in one month. Towards the end I no longer had the energy to push it any further, so I had to slow down a bit. Still, these are good results for myself and the team. I would like to thank the team's sponsors and all the people around me. It was a great Grand Prix and I will try to do the same on Wednesday."
Brent van Doninck: “It was a very good day because it was only the first time I rode the team's bike, so everything was new to me. In training I rode many laps to get used to the bike and managed to set a fifteenth fastest time. In the first moto I got a bad start. The bike was very aggressive in training, so I decided to put a different sprocket on the bike for the first moto, but this turned out wrong at the start. I also crashed in the second corner, which meant I had to start the race last. In the third lap I crashed again with two other riders and again lost a lot of time. I gave chase and the driving went very well. Towards the end of the moto I made some mistakes and lost my rhythm but sixteenth place was ok! For the second round we again made a few changes to the bike. This time I got a better start and was around twelfth at the end of the first lap. I overtook a number of riders and arrived in tenth place. Here I rode the entire moto and fought some nice battles with Brian Bogers, Ivo Monticelli and Jeremy van Horebeek rode right behind me the entire moto. I didn't manage to pass Bogers, but the riding went well and I managed to cross the finish line in tenth place. For the first time on the Yamaha, this is a very nice result and we are all happy with it. We didn't expect to do this in the first game. I'm very satisfied with my first Grand Prix and let's build from here. I would like to thank the team for this opportunity, Emile Gebben and Ruud van Venrooy, so that I can show what I can do here in Italy."
