Brent Van Doninck confirmed at Gebben Van Venrooy
After the extension of Calvin Vlaanderen at Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha, the team now also announced the second rider. That will be Brent Van Doninck, who immediately made an impression when he came on as a substitute for the Dutch team.
The team has signed an agreement with Brent van Doninck, who will compete full-time in the MXGP World Championship in 2021. The young Belgian already has a lot of GP experience in MX2 where he rode for Kemea Factory Yamaha, DIGA-Process Husqvarna and Assomotor Honda.
The 2020 season was Brent's first on the 450cc bike. This season mainly focused on competitions in Great Britain as he was employed by the English ASA United Husqvarna. After Flanders suffered an injury, Van Doninck replaced him with gusto during the last three GPs.
Although he rode the YZ450F in Arco di Trento without any specific test work, the Herentals rider did well. Brent finished thirteenth, ninth and tenth in Italy. With a full winter to prepare for the 2021 season, the former MX2 podium finisher could surprise!
Brent van Doninck: “I am of course very enthusiastic about this agreement. Gebben Van Venrooy gave me the opportunity to ride the last three MXGP rounds in Italy and we were all very happy with my results. I already know that the bike is good and I think it will only get better once we start testing. I really can't wait to start working with the team.”
Klaas Hattem (Team Manager): “The Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha team is happy that we have signed a contract with Brent van Doninck for the 2021 season. As a Yamaha supported team, we are always looking for young riders with potential and the right attitude. Brent has shown this during the last three MXGP races of the year. We look forward to the 2021 season with great confidence.”
