Smooth series victory for Tim Gajser, Boger's best Dutchman
After his third holeshot of the season, World Cup leader Tim Gajser (HRC-Honda) kept it simple. The Slovenian never got into trouble. With a lead of more than 22 seconds, he beat Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Kawasaki), already the 11th series victory of the season for the reigning world champion.
The redesigned layout of the Municipal Motocross Center and the wet, swampy sand were also no obstacle for Gajser. He took the holeshot ahead of Seewer, Cairoli and Febvre. The latter provided the most enthusiasm in the initial phase. He quickly dealt with Seewer and then passed Cairoli. But no matter what the Kawasaki rider tried, he could never come close to his HRC Honda competitor.
If Gajser made small mistakes, he always corrected them with brio. Although nothing changed for the top 4 for most of the race, the battle for places of honor was fierce. Jeremy Van Horebeek seemed to be the first non-factory rider to take sixth place, but that honor ultimately fell to Brian Bogers (photo above). Meanwhile, the third top-6 ranking for BB189 in this Lommel 'triple header'. The Marchetti-KTM rider also had to continue without goggles early in the race.
Jordi Tixier - a good third in the qualifications - also confirmed his good form with a nice 7th place. The Jerre ultimately finished 9th ahead of Clément Desalle, who is currently competing in his very last GP of Belgium. Sand specialist Nathan Watson (SR Honda Motoblouz) had traveled to Lommel after the cancellation of the first race of the French beach racing championship. The eldest of the Watson brothers finished 11th. Calvin Vlaanderen was on course for a top 10 for a long time, but ultimately had to settle for 14th place.
Kay Ebben fought herself to 2 World Championship points while Freek van der Vlist stranded behind the Finn Rene Rannikko just seconds from the last point. The returning Benoit Paturel disappeared from the match early on. Since the weather forecast predicts rain, the second heat seems to be at least as tough. The unapproachable Gajser just doubled to the 13th, Flanders. Only Petar Petrov managed to escape the clutches of “Tiga”.
