VIDEO: The new Yamaha YZ250 put through its paces
Since the turn of the century, many manufacturers have referred their two-stroke motocross bikes to the museum, so we are happy that the Austrians and one Japanese brand continue to produce them. Yamaha recently presented the brand new 2021 model of their YZ250.
Has anything changed? Yes, but not much. The number plates became blue and the fork protectors black. The design department updated the graphics and that's it. Is that why the yam can be ignored? Certainly not, because this is still a fun toy. In terms of pure power, the YZ250 is not the equal of e.g. a KTM but a lot easier to ride. Moreover, warehouses worldwide are packed with aftermarket parts, so you can tune this blue rascal to your own needs.
This YZ has received few updates since 2005, but for an amateur this is still a nice ripping tool and a very reliable piece of technology. The purchase price is a lot lower compared to a 450F. Because this engine has been made for 15 years without major changes, you may still be able to buy spare parts from your dealer for the next century. Another one to convince you: the Kayaba SSS front fork on this Yamaha is still one of the best suspensions on the market.
