Rick Elzinga about the last EMX250
It was a difficult season for Rick Elzinga, who showed that he was made of the right racing cloth due to an old injury. The first race in Lommel actually went quite well and the KTM rider managed to score in both motos. The Overijssel resident managed to achieve his best performance of the season in the second match in Lommel.
Rick Elzinga: “On Saturday the first heat went very well, from twentieth place I entered the top ten and finished eighth. The second moto I made a mistake in the first corner and got myself into trouble. From 25th place I came back to 17th, but the driving was very difficult. During the last EMX250 of the season I trained to a ninth fastest time. I left the first moto last because the engine wouldn't start. When we got this working, the race management told me to wait until the starting gate had fallen. I gave chase but halfway through the race the engine started to fail again. I was just in the points but unfortunately giving up was the only option. In the second heat we decided to start with the second engine. The start was great and I managed to start the race in fourth position. It was very tough and then you notice that injuries from the previous winter can have long-lasting consequences. I dropped back to eighth place, but I'm happy with that. Despite missing four games, I still finished 24th in the championship.”
