Prado triumphs in Lommel thriller, Bogers comes in 6th
In a direct duel with mentor Tony Cairoli, MX2 world champion Jorge Prado (Red Bull KTM) gained the upper hand. The young Spaniard narrowly held off his teammate in the second heat and took the overall victory. A very strong Brian Bogers -5th in series 2- achieved his best result of the season.
The second race was an extremely exciting spectacle. Jorge Prado once again took a cannon start but immediately had all the tenors behind him. Tim Gajser, Tony Cairoli and Jeremy Seewer also did well. However, two mistakes in one lap dropped the Swiss back to 6th place. Among this select group, Brian Bogers (photo below) held out for a long time in 4th position.
With 18 minutes to go, Gajser took the lead from leader Prado. The MXGP world champion dived off himself moments later! This cleared the way for Prado and Cairoli. The ten-time world champion increased pressure on his younger rival. Tony stepped in for a moment, but a strong Prado would still come out on top. An excellently returned Romain Febvre followed in the wake of Cairoli and was the fastest man on the race at that moment! However, two mistakes cost the ex-MXGP world champion dearly. Febvre finished fourth after Gajser.
The Slovenian superstar came back unstoppable in the last part of the race. Although he saw Prado, Cairoli and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Febvre ahead of him, he could only benefit from a small mistake by the Kawa rider. Bogers ultimately crossed the line in fifth place, but Jeremy Van Horebeek (8th) and Calvin Vlaanderen (9th) also completed a positive MXGP of Limburg. In the final standings they finished 9th and 7th respectively.
Wildcard rider Brent Van Doninck seemed to be on his way to a top performance again after his 10th place in the first series. The Herentals player was 10th for a long time, but had a problem in the second part of the race. Freek van der Vlist did score in the second round. The Dutch KTM rider now finished 19th.
