Phoelich takes the ONK Quads title early!
The third round of the ONK Quads Masters was scheduled for October 4 in Varsseveld. On the Vennebulten circuit, the day's victory again went to Ricardo Phoelich. After finishing third in the first heat, the Wijchen native managed to win the second heat and, based on the second heat, remains ahead of Ruben van Lith. Van Lith achieved second place in the daily rankings with a first and third place. Despite being in the lead for most of both heats, Joe Maessen had to make do, taking second place twice in the heats and third place in the overall standings.
First heat
It was Jan Hoogendoorn who took the holeshot ahead of van Lith, Maessen, Rick Haverdil and Phoelich. Hoogendoorn quickly fell back to sixth place in the first lap and it was now the Belgian Tuur van Hoof who entered the top five. Maessen took over the lead on the second lap and together with van Lith both quickly took a small lead over Haverdil, Phoelich and van Hoof. Haverdil seemed to be the first to drop out in the battle for third place and he saw Phoelich and van Hoof pass him by. Van Lith was able to continue to follow Maessen's pace and in the final phase of the heat Maessen had to drop his pace slightly and it was somewhat of a surprising heat victory for Van Lith for Maessen. Behind them, Phoelich had broken away from van Hoof and Haverdil and claimed third place. Haverdil managed to battle past van Hoof again and saw the checkered flag in fourth place.
Second heat
It was now Maessen who managed to take the first corners and jumps fastest, ahead of Hoogendoorn Phoelich, Haverdil and Job Smits. Where Maessen quickly managed to take a lead, it was Hoogendoorn who once again fell back to a place outside the top five. The same seemed to apply to Haverdil and it was now Smits who came through third ahead of Lith and Haverdil. In the meantime, Phoelich tried to close the gap with Maessen, but has not yet succeeded. In the second part of the heat it was Van Lith who managed to continue his advance and also passed Smits. At the front, Phoelich rode a better second part of the moto and caught Maessen's rear wheel in the final phase. What everyone felt was coming happened in the penultimate round. Phoelich passed Maessen and took both the heat and the day victory. Maessen just managed to keep van Lith behind him in the heat, but Van Lith, with his third place in the heat, remained ahead of Maessen in the daily rankings. Haverdil had long since passed Smits and crossed the finish line in fourth. However, Smits remains in the top three of the ONK Quads Masters standings with his fifth place in the round.
In the standings of the ONK Quads Masters, Phoelich strengthened his leading position to a fourteen-point lead over Haverdil. Smits follows at five points, followed by van Lith. Maessen worked his way up to fifth place in the standings with his 44 points. Originally there would be one more race to be held in Oldebroek. However, it seems that due to all the corona issues, the standings of the ONK Quads Masters 2020 will also be the final standings.
