Paulin: “This is an emotional highlight.”
The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team saw action with all three riders during the first Grand Prix in Belgium. Gautier Paulin managed to win another GP round after more than three years! The Swiss Jeremy Seewer and Arnaud Tonus also managed to score well, here the trio looks back on Lommel 1.
Gautier Paulin: “This is an emotional highlight. I'm very happy to be back on the podium, especially for myself and for the team. It has been a difficult road and it took a long time for me to win again. In the first moto I went for it and had a good rhythm. I haven't talked about it much but at the end of May I broke my back and this was difficult for me. To now be back at this high level feels good. It was a very difficult time when I was in the hospital with two broken vertebrae. I fell again in Faenza, Italy and injured myself again. Now I feel 100 percent and I'm happy to be back."
Jeremy Seewer: “Lommel is always tough, or you have to win because then you enjoy it. I felt good today. I crashed on the first lap of the first moto and had to come forward from the back. I had good speed and rhythm and fought my way back to fifth place until I made another mistake due to a technical problem. This cost me three places. In the second moto I got a good start and rode well into second place but then threw it away again due to a stupid crash. This is Lommel because if you drive at the limit it is very treacherous. I am very happy with third place, but on the other hand I am also disappointed. We still have two games to make up for the mistakes."
Arnaud Tonus: “Coming back to Lommel from the bench is tough. I came here after training with the bike only twice since my crash in Mantova. I therefore started the day without expectations. I wanted to get through the day and start building to get stronger and stronger in the last few matches. The first heat was positive, but it cost me a lot of energy. In the second heat I wanted to reach the finish but I was very slow. I reached the finish and this is a good start for the next races."
