Lata surprises with the victory, Bonacorsi continues to lead by a wide margin!
The fifth race of the European 125cc Championship has a surprising winner. Valerio Lata wins with a second and first place on the Mantova circuit ahead of Meico Vettik (1-4) and Max Palsson (3-3). Andrea Bonacorsi has to be satisfied with tenth place after three victories in a row. The 17-year-old rider remains the leader in the standings because Guillem Farres failed to score in both heats after taking pole position. Cas Valk scores once with a fourth place, Scott Smulders (16-19) scores both heats.

When the starting gate goes down, Raul Sanchez takes the best start ahead of Andrea Roncoli, Pietro Razzini, Karlis Alberts Reisulis and Valerio Lata! This means we see three Italians in the top five, but Roncoli and Lata drop back in the first round. Bobby Bruce has entered the top four and the Brit is increasing the pressure on Reisulis. After a number of laps he manages to pass Razzini, after which the Latvian increases the pressure on the leader. Sanchez resists fiercely, but then the Yamaha rider makes a mistake. Reisulis goes down and Razzini avoids the crash but falls five meters later himself! Bruce takes the lead ahead of Vettik and it looks like Brent Vandoninck's British teammate will take the win. Then the stragglers come and Vettik knows how to deal with them best. Bruce loses the lead to Vettik and moments later Bruce also crashes. Vettik wins ahead of Lata who is put under heavy pressure by Max Palsson. The Swede tries everything but he has to be satisfied with third place. Valk rides a well-watched race and that earns him a good fourth place ahead of Razzini. Bonacorsi does not get further than twelfth place, but because Guillem Farres does not score, there is still no problem. Scott Smulders scores in 16th place, where Kay Karssemakers (22nd), Ivano van Erp (27th) and Yoran Moens (33rd) do not score.

Valk gets off to a great start in the second round! De Nijverdaler takes the lead ahead of Lata, Palsson and Roncoli. In midfield you always have to pay attention and Bonacorsi notices this, who gets into trouble when others fall. The Fantic rider also crashes and needs a lot of time to get back into the race. Valk is immediately well into the match and he even manages to distance himself from Lata. When Valk briefly misses the circuit, he loses the lead to Lata, who no longer relinquishes this position. Valk has to go into the pits due to a problem with the spark plug and therefore he does not score. Roncali crosses the finish line in second ahead of Palsson, who now also crosses the finish line in third. Vettik takes fourth place ahead of Frenchman Saad Soulimani, who crashed hard in the first moto. Smulders now scores two points with a 19th place, Valk (26th) and Moens (29th) do not score. Karssemakers and Van Erp are not allowed to start after their motorcycles are presented too late in the waiting zone!
Next week the EMX125 will continue in Spain, followed by competitions in Lommel, Belgium!
