Steady progress for Dylan Walsh
JM Honda Racing's Dylan Walsh collected the best points total of his young MXGP career yesterday. The talented New Zealander finished 14th yesterday in Lommel, where the 14th round of the Motocross World Championship took place. Artem Guryev had a tough day in the deep sand, finishing 28th overall.
Walsh was keen to do better than last Sunday. However, he could not find his way in the time training. He has previously proven that an inferior position behind the starting gate is not an insurmountable problem for Dylan to start strongly. Once again the JM Honda CRF450R was impressive. After that he stayed in the top 15 for a long time. Unfortunately, Walsh had to throw away his goggles with five laps to go. He eventually finished 17th in the first heat.
After another great start, things went wrong in the initial phase for the former British MX2 champion. Yet Dylan did not give up, as he defended himself well among the sand specialists. Walsh even climbed to 12th place, finishing 30th after 14 minutes plus two laps. With his 14th place he also equaled his personal best performance from Mantova 2.
Artem Guryev also had a difficult time during the qualifying session. Unfortunately, the sympathetic Russian could not turn the tide in the heats. The #555 JM Honda Racing rider finished 24th in the opening heat and retired in the restart. This Sunday, Benoit Paturel will make his return during the third and final World Championship round in Lommel. The French class rider injured his back in mid-August during the last race in Kegums.
Dylan Walsh: “It was definitely a step in the right direction. During the timed training I just couldn't get a fast lap. Fortunately, things went better in the first series. After a good start I got into a reasonable rhythm. Too bad I had to continue without glasses at the end. I also had a good start in the second moto, but I soon crashed quite hard. After that I was able to make some amends. Still a much better day than Sunday in the end, but we would like to do even better.”
Artem Guryev: “I am anything but satisfied with my match yesterday. In the first race I had two big crashes early in the race. That's why I had to come back from far away. Also in the second moto I had a hard landing on my head. I tried to start again but then I fell three more times. My body ached everywhere and I felt a bit dizzy, so it was safer to come in.”
