Gautier Paulin wins first series in Lommel
It was a chilly Sunday afternoon there in the sandbox of Lommel, but the first series was very hot with many skirmishes in the first laps. Henry Jacobi and Glenn Coldenhoff did not start due to their crashes in time practice this morning. Coldenhoff was taken to Herentals hospital.
After the start there was immediately a fuss in the first corner where eight riders crashed, including Ivo Monticello, Clément Desalle, Calvin Vlaanderen and Antonio Cairoli. JM Honda rider Dylan Walsh grabbed the holeshot but quickly had to let Gajser pass. Then he crashed twice and disappeared to the rear. In the second lap Cairoli had to lose a few places after a crash and restarted on the 18thde place.
Gautier Paulin overtook a well-started Jorge Prado in the third lap. The Frenchman acted as usual and tried to keep the gap on Gajser small. Brian Bogers was fourth at the time while Gajser suddenly fell. This is how Paulin took the lead with Gajser in second who now has about eight seconds to make up on the new leader. Our compatriot Jeremy Van Horebeek started the race well and finished fifth with a few laps to go. In the last lap Seewer has to deal with a blocked starting system and has to dismount for a while.
Paulin wins the first heat ahead of Gajser and Prado. Brian Bogers came on strong to threaten Prado, but finished a very good fourth. Van Horebeek also rode a great series and crossed the line in fifth place.
