Gajser extends his lead in Mantova!
It took a while but Tim Gajser has taken his first GP victory of the year. The Slovenian finished first and second on the Mantova circuit. The Honda rider is of course also doing good business in the championship! The 24-year-old rider now has an eleven-point lead over Antonio Cairoli! The 35-year-old Italian comes second in the daily rankings ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff. Brian Bogers also scores well, he finished ninth and tenth during the heats!

The first round is the Prado with the best start for Febvre, Dylan Walsh and Gajser. When the riders ride up for the first time, the Spaniard stalls his engine. Febvre crashes into the KTM and Walsh takes the lead on the outside. The New Zealander from Jacky Martens' team is followed by HRC riders Gajser and Mitchell Evans! The three-time world champion needs almost ten minutes to pass Walsh. After that, the British MX2 champion drops back and unfortunately does not reach the finish. Gajser wins ahead of a great riding Coldenhoff. The 29-year-old rider from Heesch started the race outside the top ten, but he is going like a fire brigade. After 30 minutes he manages to surprise Prado and then even Gajser comes under pressure. The GasGas rider comes very close, but Gajser wins ahead of Coldenhoff, Prado, Evans and Cairoli, who loses nine points in the title battle. Bogers crosses the finish line in ninth, Calvin Vlaanderen is eleventh ahead of Clement Desalle and Jeremy Van Horebeek is fourteenth.

Also in the second round it is Prado who takes the FOX Holeshot Award, now ahead of Gajser, Cairoli, Jeremy Seewer and Coldenhoff. While Cairoli bets on teammate Prado, the Honda rider chooses the inside corner and with success! The FOX dressed crosser takes the lead! A little later the Spanish MX2 world champion makes a mistake and loses many places. Cairoli ends up in second place and after 9 minutes of the match Gajser falls. He manages to get back into the match just before Febvre. Cairoli is in charge and he will not relinquish it. The final phase is still exciting because Gajser would like to win both heats, but the nine-time champion knows how to prevent that! Cairoli wins ahead of Gajser and Seewer who manages to surprise Febvre. The Frenchman finished fourth ahead of Coldenhoff, who took his third podium place of the season. Desalle finishes sixth and Flanders crosses the finish line in ninth ahead of the strong-riding Bogers! Van Horebeek does not score in this match.
After three matches in Mantova, the World Cup continues next week in Spain.
