Ferrandis wins the title, Jett Lawrence the overall!!
It was an important day for Dylan Ferrandis! The Frenchman was able to claim his first national AMA title in the 250 class, after previously being crowned regional West Coast 250 AMA Supercross champion twice.
In the first moto, Dylan Ferrandis' teammate Justin Cooper managed to take the holeshot. However, after a few laps Justin Cooper saw the Australian Honda pilot Jett Lawrence passing. Justin Cooper did not immediately have an answer to Jett Lawrence's speed and Justin Cooper soon also had Dylan Ferrandis on his rear wheel. Anyone who expected team orders was in for a treat because Justin Cooper defended himself like a devil in pasture water against the Frenchman. Nevertheless, with a few laps to go, Dylan Ferrandis found a gap to get past his teammate. What followed was Dylan Ferrandis closing the gap to his former CLS teammate Jett Lawrence. We had an interesting match, tough against rough, but Jett Lawrence held on to the lead and managed to score his first series victory of his career. This for Dylan Ferrandis, Justin Cooper and Jeremy Martin. Thanks to Jeremy Martin's fourth place, Dylan Ferrandis' lead at the start of the second heat was now 22 points!
It was Shane McElrath who managed to take the holeshot in the second moto. However, the Yamaha pilot saw Jeremy Martin pass on the third lap! The Geico Honda pilot demonstrated his skills in this moto and rode to a great victory! Not long after Jeremy Martin, Shane McElrath also saw two other Geico Honda team pilots pass by with Jett Lawrence and Jo Shimoda. With the series victory in the first heat and second place in the second heat, Jett Lawrence was also assured of the overall victory, the first for the 17-year-old Australian!
And what about Dylan Ferrandis?! The Frenchman had a solid start with a fifth place. One lap later, the French curse that roams the Pala Raceway, just think of Pourcel vs Canard, seemed to put a stop to the wheels again. Dylan Ferrandis made a few mistakes and fell back to ninth place, which made his margin over Jeremy Martin a lot less comfortable. However, the Frenchman remained calm and fought his way back up a few places to eventually finish fifth! More than enough to win the title.
