Benistant wins his second EMX title in style
Thibault Benistant came to the final of the European 250cc Championship in Lommel with a large lead. In the first moto, Mattia Guadagnini tried to force the Frenchman to make a mistake through foul play. Benistant chooses second place to finish the job with a convincing victory later in the afternoon. Hakon Fredriksen (4-2) is second in the daily rankings ahead of Jorgen-Matthias Talviku (3-7). Marcel Conijn finished fourth very nicely, the KTM rider scored fifth place in both heats. Twan van Essen (17-15) scores both rounds, Kjeld Stuurman (19-DNF) only succeeds in the first round. Rick Elzinga has engine problems in the first moto, but he hits back hard in the second moto with an eighth place! Kay de Wolf gets injured in training and does not play.

From pole position, Benistant makes a great start and takes the lead ahead of Guadagnini who goes wide in the first corner. This allows Gianluca Facchetti to take over second place and Marcel Conijn and Dave Kooiker to push for the Maddii Racing driver. At the front, Benistant tries to gain distance, but Guadagnini quickly works his way forward to displace the Yamaha rider from the lead after about ten minutes. Then Guadagnini shows his worst side by slowing down the pace and trying to get into Benistant's wheels again and again. As a result, Conijn finds a connection, but he does not want to get involved in this battle. After ten minutes of very bad publicity for the sport and for himself, Guadagnini finally continues at a racing pace. The Husqvarna rider wins ahead of Benistant and Talviku. The Estonian has had a bad start, just like Hakon Fredriksen and both are working very well forward. Brent van Doninck's teammate comes third ahead of the Norwegian. Conijn saw his pace broken by the fickle Guadagnini, but the Terschelling native finished fifth. Twan van Essen (17th) and Kjeld Stuurman (19th) managed to get into the points this round. Jens Walvoort (25th), Damian Wedage (27th) do not score, Romain Delbrassinne, Rick Elzinga and Kooiker do not finish

The tension is of course palpable for the last round of the season. Benistant is 'cool' because he gets the best start and then controls the match. The Yamaha rider dances around the circuit and wins ahead of Yamaha colleague Fredriksen. Yamaha's success is not over yet because Tim Edberg crosses the finish line in third place! The Swede from Riley Racing briefly holds second place, but Fredriksen is unstoppable in the second half of the race. Bastian Boegh Damm still gives color to the season after his great victory in Valkenswaard. The WZ Racing driver crosses the finish line in fourth ahead of Conijn, who is riding strong despite a side trip. Elzinga cannot get his machine started in the first heat, but when the starting gate falls he still succeeds, so he has to chase. In the second moto he rode in the top five for a long time and finished eighth! Van Essen scores again, the rider from Lunteren crosses the finish line in fifteenth. The other Lowlanders do not reach the finish and that also applies to Guadagnini. He is involved in a crash in the first corner and crashes hard again after about ten minutes of the race!
The championship is over, the title more or less remains in the Netherlands. Last year F&H Racing Team won this with Roan van de Moosdijk and now Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing has won with Benistant! The last time Yamaha won this title was in 2012 with Mel Pocock.
