Nick Triest is Swiss champion!
The differences between the title candidates in the Swiss MX Open were minimal. However, ex-Husqvarna factory rider Nick Triest came out on top! Nick finished fifth yesterday in Arcey, today he only had to finish third on the last day of competition.
After the first round, the boards between Nick and leader Cyril Scheiwiller were exactly balanced at 148 points. Even more, the first six(!) were barely 12 points apart.
However, multiple Belgian MX2 champion Nick Triest kept a cool head today. In the first heat he laid the foundation for his title with a nice victory. As usual in this championship, the Lommelaar had a good start. After six laps, Triest took command and finished the job. In the second series Nick finished fifth, but winner Kim Schäfter could no longer threaten him for the championship.
Title candidate Cyril Scheiwiller did not play again today. Today was also an emotional day for 30-year-old Trieste, after all, he lost his mother at the beginning of this year.
