Van de Ven wins the second round, Papenmeier the GP
In Mantova, Larissa Papenmeier (2-2) won the third Grand Prix of the season. It is the second victory for the German who also managed to get the most points in Valkenswaard! Nancy van de Ven (5-1) comes second ahead of Kiara Fontanesi (3-5). The first heat is won by Courtney Duncan, but she crashes hard in the second heat and therefore remains scoreless. This ensures that 30-year-old Papenmeier is the new leader in the standings with two games to go.
Lynn Valk finishes sixth overall ahead of Shana van der Vlist, Stephanie Stoutjesdijk manages to score in both rounds, while Britt Jans-Beken unfortunately remains scoreless under the Italian sun.
1e some
After more than six months, the starting gate is lowered again for the ladies! Anderson takes the best start just ahead of Valk and Duncan collides with Valk before the second corner! The Nijverdalse is going down and that also puts Van de Ven in trouble! The Swede is allowed to hold the lead for a while, but then the reigning champion passes and then breaks free. Fontanesi also passes Anderson in the initial phase, but the Italian goes down! Papenmeier therefore takes over second place, but she cannot do anything against Duncan. He has built up a lead of a maximum of 25 seconds and can even afford a slide. The Kawasaki rider wins ahead of Papenmeier and Fontanesi, who comes back strongly to third place. Line Dam crosses the finish line in fourth place, ahead of Van de Ven, who manages to complete a good catch-up race. Valk comes in seventh and Stoutjesdijk takes a point by crossing the finish line in 20th. Jans-Beken rode in the top five for a long time, but in the final phase she ran into problems and did not finish.
2e some
When the starting gate for the second heat drops, Van de Ven immediately takes the lead. The Yamaha rider is followed by Elisa Galvagno, Anderson, Duncan and Papenmeier. The plan of 22-year-old Van de Ven is clear because she immediately takes off. Duncan needs some time to work his way up to second place. The leader then already has a five second lead. The New Zealander tries to close her gap, but things go wrong on a big jump. Duncan falls hard but she wants to move on quickly. However, that is not possible due to damage to her machine! Van de Ven doesn't look back and she wins with a safe lead. Papenmeier is second again this time ahead of Anderson. Valk shows muscle and manages to keep Fontanesi behind in a beautiful final. Van der Vlist now crosses the finish line in seventh place and Stoutjesdijk takes sixteenth place!
