Thomas Kjer Olsen on stage!
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing achieved its first podium finish of the season with Thomas Kjer Olsen during the seventh round of the MX2 World Championship in Faenza, Italy.
Olsen rode two strong heats and a fourth and third place in the heats was enough to finish third in the day's results. Jed Beaton also showed up very well. Beaton came from the back in the first moto after a crash in the first lap to twelfth place, but took revenge in the second moto by finishing second.
After Jed Beaton managed to set a good time in timed training and finished fourth, Thomas Kjer Olsen did not get further than thirteenth. Both riders had a good feeling on the track and were ready for the first heat.
The first heat started with a setback for Jed as he crashed in the first lap and had to come back to the front from the back of the field. Beaton gave everything he had and fought all the way back to twelfth place. Thomas had a reasonably good start and came out of the first lap in sixth place. He held on to this for a long time, but in the final phase he started to gain momentum and managed to gain two more places. This resulted in a decent fourth place, which kept his chances of reaching the podium open.
In the second moto both riders got off to a good start. This time Jed came out of the first round in the top five and Thomas was not far behind in seventh place. Both riders worked their way to the front and this ensured that they took second and third place in the second part of the race. Jed held on for second place and Thomas crossed the finish line in third, taking his first podium of the season.
With a 4-3 in the heats, Thomas finished third in the overall standings and Jed took fifth place. In the world championship standings, Jed has risen to fourth place and Thomas is now eighth. This Sunday the third race will be held on the Faenza circuit and there will also be a battle for points for the world championship.
