Seewer fourth in the third GP of Faenza.
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP was in action for the last time on Sunday at the Faenza circuit in Italy. The third match of the Italian triple header was held under the hot sun under the watchful eye of a limited number of fans. After the first two races in Faenza went very positively, the Yamaha team was in the right flow and the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was the next step in the right direction.
Jeremy Seewer continued his good form and managed to set a good second time in timed training. This was also his position when the starting gate folded down in the first heat. Seewer was clearly the fastest rider on the track and tried everything he could to pass the leader. During an overtaking maneuver in the final phase of the heat, he crashed and lost second place. He did manage to score important points for the championship with a third place. Seewer set the fastest time during the race and showed how fast he was.
He was also strong in the second moto, but it took him a number of laps in the early stages before he arrived in fourth place. This was the position he managed to hold until the checkered flag. With a 3-4 in the heats he finished in fourth place in the daily rankings and was two points short of taking a place on the podium. Seewer took important points and is now fourth in the MXGP World Championship standings, just eight points behind the third man in the championship. After eight games he is only 30 points behind the leader in the championship.
Gautier Paulin was unlucky not to finish in the top five. He got a very good start in the first moto and rode in the leading group. He lost valuable time due to a crash, but he did not give up and managed to finish eleventh. In the second heat he finished ninth and these results gave him eleventh place in the daily rankings. After the triple header in Faenza, Paulin is in eighth place in the world championship standings. The third rider of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team, Arnaud Tonus, did not start due to an ankle injury.
Jeremy Seewer: “I got a good start in the first moto. I had an exciting duel with Antonio Cairoli but luckily we didn't crash. I followed Jorge Prado the entire moto but didn't manage to pass him. I gave everything I had but lost my energy because of this. Because I was driving at the limit, I crashed. I didn't really make a mistake but this can happen in motocross. Still, I managed to finish third. In the second moto I was behind Prado again and this time I managed to pass him, but I had lost valuable time. To be honest, I felt a bit exhausted because I had used up a lot of energy in the first moto. It's a shame I missed the podium but I took important points for the championship. I haven't suffered any injuries and that is positive. I will now recover and continue to work hard for the rest of the championship."
Gautier Paulin: “In the first heat I wanted to overtake a straggler, so I took a different line. The ground was very hard there, so the front wheel slipped and I fell. I lost a lot of time and was disappointed with it. Last Sunday I had a hard fall and lost a lot of energy. I felt this in the second moto. I pushed hard but I lacked the energy. I am now going to recover and see if my health is in order so that I am fully fit in Mantova. I am disappointed with these three games here in Faenza. The first one was ok because then you could see the real Gautier riding, but I had the heavy crash and I didn't recover well from that. I am ready to recover now and get back to work so that I can be 100 percent fit again in Mantova.”
In the next two weeks the team will prepare for the next triple header, which will be held on the sandy sand circuit of Mantova.
