Sacha Coenen takes French 85cc title!
Just like in the previous races of the 24MX Tour, Sacha Coenen (KTM Belgium) was head and shoulders above the rest again today. Sacha secured the French 85cc title with flying colors during the final in Rauville la Place! Coenen was clearly the fastest in both series.
During the timed training, Sacha was already 1,8 seconds faster than his closest rival Mathis Valin (737 Performance). A mediocre top-10 start was not an insurmountable problem for Coenen, who took command after just two laps in the first race. The Motorsport Future talent ultimately had an almost 11 second lead over Marc Antoine Rossi, with early leader Valin finishing third.
In the second heat Sacha was only 14th away. It didn't make much difference because the Brussels class rider sent his KTM to the top of the race in two laps! Once again Coenen set the fastest lap. In the end he won by 14,2 seconds ahead of Maho Simo. In the final score, “SC19” collected no fewer than five series victories out of six. Although he had his sights set on strong European Championship and junior World Cup results, this French title is still a nice consolation prize in this memorable Corona season.
The championship was also a success for vice champion Valin, guided by Valentin Teillet. Mathis made systematic progress and showed that he is already doing well, especially on hard tracks. Coenen's compatriot Hugo Stiennes also performed well in France. The young TM rider from MC Rozoy finished 9th (11-7) in the final standings today.
