Gebben-Van Venrooij Racing drivers over Mantova 1
Mixed feelings at Gebben-Van Venrooij Racing after Mantova 1. Calvin Vlaanderen made his mark and seems to be finding his way better and better on the Yamaha. Alessandro Lupino hurt his knee while Thomas Covington struggles. The drivers tell their story here from Circuit Tazio Nuvolari.
Calvin Vlaanderen: Today was a step in the right direction. I am very satisfied with my riding and my fitness. I have taken a nice step forward since Faenza. I didn't feel so sharp in qualifying. I suffered from pumped up arms and that made it difficult to set a fast time, but an eleventh time was good. In the first heat I started in sixth place and rode a good race. I didn't feel great but I stayed out of trouble and rode a tight race. In the second moto I made some wrong choices in the first few corners and had to come a long way. I managed to pass a number of riders and felt that my speed and condition were good. I came back to eleventh place and I'm happy to have finished in the top five in a moto for the first time and to have finished in the top ten overall. I would like to thank the team for the hard work they have done. Let's stay motivated because there are more great competitions to come."
Alessandro Lupino: “It was a good day. I'm happy that the team also did well with Calvin, he was very fast. I had hoped to finish the day in the top ten but with two laps to go I put my foot down incorrectly and broke some ligaments in my ankle. I have to do some additional research in the coming days and then we'll see how things go in the matches. I hope I'll be there again on Wednesday."
Thomas Covington: “It was a difficult day for me. It took a long time before I felt comfortable on the track. I haven't been able to train with the bike in recent weeks and that didn't help me. We changed a few things for the second moto and that made me feel better already. We still have two chances on Wednesday and Sunday."
