Bax/Musset win spectacular ONK Sidecar Masters in Oss!
Etienne Bax and Nicolas Musset managed to win the spectacular second ONK Sidecar Masters in Oss. In the first round they still had to tolerate team Willemsen, but in the second round no one could match the speed of Bax/Musset and they became the winner in Oss. Willemsen/Bax managed to win the first heat and were classified fourth in the second heat due to a tumultuous heat. This was enough to finish second in the daily total and remain in the lead for the ONK Sidecar Masters championship. Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart rode well and solidly and finished third twice and were also third on the day's podium.
Veldman/Cermak managed to take the fastest time in qualifying with one fast lap in the morning. Bax/Musset rode the third fastest time, but were disqualified in this timed training because they were tinkering on the circuit. So they would have to be seventeenth and last at the starting gate. Broens/Maas made a big hit and decided not to start the games.
Heat 1
During the start of the first heat, Veldman/Cermak were able to capitalize on the best position with the holeshot. Together with the surprising Debruyne/Mans and Willemsen/Bax, they were the first to enter the first corner and managed to aggressively take the lead on the inside. Willemsen was forced out a bit and he in turn forced Kops/Horton, who was coming behind, out a bit. Kops/Horton almost flew into the fences, but managed to prevent them from leaving the track with their sidecar. Several combinations suffered from the commotion, including Bax/Musset, who had a bad start after the start. However, as if stung by a wasp, Bax/Musset were racing to catch up. At the front everything seemed to be fine for Veldman/Cermak who wanted to score big for the championship. Halfway through, however, things went wrong on the starting area when baker Ondreij Cermak slipped out of the box and was barely able to stick his hands to the bucket bracket. Veldman was still accelerating and only realized that something was wrong when he missed Cermak's arms while entering the corner. Instead of his truck driver getting ready to hang out, he hung from the bracket like a rag doll with his legs under the sidecar.
Veldman had to stop, Cermak jumped back into the box, but this gave Willemsen/Bax the opportunity to take first place. Willemsen acted like a red rag to a bull for Veldman, who quickly gave chase. However, one lap later the race ended for Veldman/Cermak who had to deal with machine trouble! What was extra sad was that Veldman couldn't even get his stranded sidecar off the track at first. Unconsciously he created an extra barrier for, among others, his younger brother Sam Veldman in Leferink's prison. Leferink/Veldman were in the match well, but got stuck against the machine of Veldman/Cermak. Talk about bitter.
Due to the retirement of Veldman/Cermak, Bax/Musset moved to second place. They could still close the gap to leader Willemsen/Bax, but it would never be a real threat. Willemsen/Bax won the first heat and Bax/Musset took second place. Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart finished third and in the very last lap Hermans/Janssens managed to outwit Van Werven/Beunk and finished fourth. Team Van Werven then finished fifth and at sixth we saw Keuben/Beleckas who were also able to pass Leferink/Veldman in the last lap. Behind this it was Britt Wilkinson who crossed the line in eighth place with his Swiss baking player Maxime Cuche.
Heat 2
In the second heat, Willemsen/Bax managed to take the holeshot, followed by Hermans/Janssens, Bax/Musset and Van Werven/Beunk. Already in the first lap, Hermans saw the opportunity to pass Willemsen and take the lead. However, things went wrong for Hermans/Janssens in the second round. Just after the washboard, Koen Hermans suddenly fell off the sidecar and the truck driver Janssens was able to quickly grab the handlebars of the sidecar to stop the car. The following mob hit Hermans' sidecar, causing Willemsen to slightly injure his hand. Willemsen initially managed to take over the lead. However, this was short-lived as the pursuing Bax/Musset wasted no time. After a nice duel that lasted about one lap, Bax saw his opportunity to put the team on a different track than that of Willemsen and take over the lead with more speed. Bax/Musset then steadily drove away from the competition and managed to take the second heat and the day's victory in Oss unthreatened. Veldman/Cermak would now receive pay for their work and ultimately come second. After about fifteen minutes of the match it was a typical case of the proverb 'where two dogs fight for a bone, the other goes with it'. Veldman/Cermak took over the fighting Willemsen/Bax and Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart within one lap and therefore did not relinquish second place. Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart finally managed to defeat Willemsen/Bax after a hard duel and would therefore also finish third in the day's results. Willemsen, who was somewhat troubled by his hand, then fell back a little further, only to make a final sprint in the last lap and steal fourth place from Van Werven/Beunk. This gave Willemsen/Bax just enough points to be second on the podium and they retained the lead in the standings of the ONK Sidecar Masters. Van Werven/Beunk now finished fifth again as in the first heat. Leferink/Veldman would finish sixth and could only just prevent Wilkinson/Cuche from passing. The Brit and the Swiss therefore remained behind Leferink/Veldman at seven. Keuben/Beleckas then finished eighth, just ahead of the also strong Kops/Horton. Despite their perilous adventure, Hermans/Janssens could still be classified tenth.
The third round of the ONK Sidecar Masters will take place in two weeks on October 4 in the Achterhoekse Varsseveld.
