Another win for Benistant, Everts a very good seventh!
Once again Thibault Benistant has won the first round during a race of the European 250cc Championship. The Frenchman won in Kegums ahead of Tom Guyon (photo) and Meico Vettik. Liam Everts does not have a good qualification, but he finishes seventh in the race. Kay de Wolf comes fourteenth and Twan van Essen scores again with a 16th place.
Just like last Saturday, Guyon takes the best start for the first heat. The Frenchman takes the lead ahead of Benistant, Vettik, Gianluca Facchetti and Pierre Goupillon. In the first round De Wolf manages to enter the top five, but a little later the Brabander makes a mistake. Due to a second slide, he falls far back, so he has to work hard to cross the finish line in fourteenth. At the front, Guyon is allowed to set the pace for 18 minutes, after which Benistant takes the lead. The Hutten Metaal Yamaha rider wins ahead of Guyon and Vettik. A special achievement by the Estonian who was active in the EMX125 last year. The same goes for Guyon but Vettik does everything like a private driver! Fourth place goes to Tim Edberg, the Riley Racing driver started the race in seventh place but is working his way neatly to the front. It will be exciting in the last round, but Mattia Guadagnini has to be satisfied with fifth place. When the results are published we see that Edberg comes ninth, his machine makes too much noise and he loses five places!
