Van de Moosdijk and Boisrame on the GP podium
After five months, the FIM MX2 World Championship finally continued in Latvia. With three races in eight days, it promises to be a tough week, but the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team has started this 'triple' well. During the third GP of the season, Roan van de Moosdijk and Mathys Boisrame were allowed to climb onto the podium. 19-year-old Roan finished second and fourth during the heats, placing him second overall. His French teammate finished fourth and third in the 30-minute, two-lap heats. That result gave Mathys third place in the daily rankings. Mikkel Haarup only managed to score in the first heat, the Dane finished ninth. The victory went to Tom Vialle who also leads the championship.
1st Round
On Sunday morning, Mathys set the best training time and he can start from pole position ahead of teammate Roan who managed to set a second time. The KX250F riders sprint to the first right corner and both pass the pits for the first time in the top five. Roan comes third from the first round behind Vialle and Geerts, followed by his French colleague. When Geerts crashes in the second round, Roan and Mathys climb to second and third place respectively. The 19-year-old Roan will no longer hand over this second position and the Brabander and the team are very satisfied with his performance. Mathys has to give up a position halfway through the race, but with fourth place he also looks back very satisfied on the first GP round after five months! Mikkel started the race in tenth place and he battled with Geerts for ninth place for two laps. The Dane passes the Belgian after more than ten minutes, but then Ostlund comes up. Well into the second half of the match, Mikkel manages to increase the pace and he comes back to Ostlund, which makes for an exciting finale. The Leatt-clad rider tries everything to regain eighth place, but he just doesn't succeed.
2st Round
The Motul-lubricated Kawasakis also got off to a good start during the second moto. Mathys even seems to take the 'holeshot', but Vialle narrowly avoids that. In the third laps Mathys has to hand over the second heat to Geerts who takes the lead not much later. In the last ten minutes of the race it becomes even more exciting when 22-year-old Mathys reconnects with leaders Geerts and Vialle. A small mistake causes this connection to be lost and the Frenchman finishes third. Roan started the race in fifth position and after Fernandez made a mistake, the Eindhoven native was able to make up a position. This fourth place ensures that Roan comes second in the daily rankings ahead of his teammate Mathys! A great achievement for the South Holland team and their drivers. Unfortunately, Mikkel's match does not go as well. The Dane is fighting with the Australian Crowford for tenth place, but a crash plays tricks on him. The 18-year-old unfortunately falls out of the points but still crosses the finish line in 25th place.
